Dr. SHEN’s research interests are about rural planning and urban-rural relationship. His research addresses the impact of urbanization on rural villages with a particular focus on several issues, including land and housing institutions, community development, rural-urban mobility, education in the countryside. His research adopts an inter-disciplinary approach, combining intensive field work and a historical approach to examine the process and outcome of villages undergoing urbanization in Yangtze River Delta region. Dr. Shen has achieved an impressive list of publications in some leading journals, such as Urban Studies, Land Use Policy, Journal of Rural Studies, China City Planning Review, and so on. He has also recently published a Springer book “Rural Revitalization through State-led Programs: Planning, Governance and Challenge.”
