Addressing income inequality is crucial for achieving a socially sustainable urban future. Urban policymakers have been consistently working towards this goal through interconnected measures such as welfare programs, tax reforms, subsidies, and transfer payments. However, global experiences indicate that these policy interventions often do not fully achieve their intended objectives. In this presentation, Dr. Ivy Siu Wai Wong will share her case studies, demonstrating how community building can provide an alternative approach to effectively tackle this challenge.
