Understanding China's Urban Transition from a Micro-historical Perspective

Speaker: Siu Wai WONG, Associate Professor, Department of Building and Real estate, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

China's urban transition involves the transformation of a segregated, village-based society that was previously governed by a combination of socialist collectivism and ancient lineage traditions. This unique trajectory of transition positions China as an ideal “laboratory” for investigating the correlation between urbanization and governance transformation. In this lecture, Dr. Siu Wai (Ivy) Wong will present her utilization of a micro-historical approach to develop novel theories in planning and governance, drawing from China's urban development experiences.
